Loves it. Worth the travel time from Tokyo. The full trail takes about four hours, the four km is a long the river and you get stunning falls one after the other. The other 6 km is along the old trolley line which was used to transport logs.

Very peaceful environment. Fresh air, flowing river and very beautiful waterfalls. Good for trekking. Refreshing air with birds singing forest. Trials were a bit hard but overall great experience. Must go place once in awhile.

A very pleasant and sporty walk alongside the river and in the forest. Multitude of waterfalls. Bring water and some snacks for those who may need energy especially if you do the 10km circuit that has a very steep uphill tranche at the middle

I did a number of day hikes in Japan in forest/mountain areas and wanted to experience a different environment. I found Nishizawa Valley gorge to be the perfect change in scenery. It was a 14km 3.5hr walk. I travelled 3hrs from Tokyo by train then bus. It was completely worth it. I went in late September. No one else was there which made it more magical. It rained half the time but it didn't dampen our experience. The walk starts very easy and you see some concrete falls - not very impressive. As you continue, the trail goes alongside the gushing gorge for much of the trail. This was beautiful beyond words. Great care must be taken on wet rocks. Do yourself a favour and go!

Great place to refresh soul and body. The waterfalls and the woods are beautiful. Prepare for 2h of rough terrain with ups and downs followed by 1 hour of sloppy walking. After heavy rain, some parts are super muddy, and 2-3 meters where you have to go barefoot knee-deep into the water to cross. Bring a towel!
