Historic site full of cultural artifacts. Was educational and had an observation deck with amazing view. Only thing is that it is located on a hill where only access is up a long staircase. There is also no air-conditioning available, so be prepared if you're going in the middle if summer. There are fans and thankfully there was a breeze, but you can still feel the 30 degrees heat.

I recently visited Wakayama Castle and had a wonderful experience exploring its rich history and beautiful surroundings. The castle itself is an impressive structure, standing tall and offering stunning views of the city. The architecture and the exhibits inside provide a fascinating glimpse into Japan's feudal past. One of the highlights of the visit was the small zoo located within the castle grounds. It's a charming spot, perfect for families and children to enjoy. The variety of animals, although not extensive, was delightful and added an extra layer of enjoyment to the trip. Around the castle, there are several yatai, or food stalls, offering a variety of delicious local snacks and meals. These stalls are a great way to sample local flavors and enjoy a casual meal amidst the historic setting. The food was tasty and reasonably priced, making it a perfect complement to the visit. The castle grounds are beautifully maintained, with lovely gardens and walking paths that are perfect for a leisurely stroll. The combination of historical intrigue, the small zoo, and the delightful food stalls make Wakayama Castle a must-visit destination. Whether you're a history buff, a family with kids, or just looking for a pleasant day out, this spot has something for everyone. I highly recommend visiting if you’re in the area!

The architecture from outside is amazing, you have very beautiful gardens and nice way up to the main entrance. The inside with exhibitions of the samurai armor’s, weapons and other interesting things. Not easy for people with wheelchair. A lot of stairs to climb. Great castle with cities view from the above.

Beautiful castle that is amazing to visit due to not that many visitors. Can get to the top of the castle where it's windows are wide open and even allow you to walk around the top of it (unlike himeji and other popular castles which only allows you to peek out the windows).

I've only been to a few Japanese castles and so far Wakayama is my favorite! Very peaceful, great view, and nice museum within the castle. I'll definitely visit again. 😊
