Konyacho Banya(Guardhouse)

The original building was built in 1891 (Meiji 24) as a fire lookout of "Morioka Fire Brigade Yogumi" at its current location, then renovated in 1913 (Taisho 2) as the Fire Brigade Division 4 office. It was used as a fire station until 2005.

Former fire department. Currently, the interior has been renovated and is now a cafe and general store. At the cafe, you can eat snacks and shaved ice. There is an intersection right in front of the entrance, so we recommend taking photos diagonally.

It is a Western-style wooden building from the Taisho period, and its exterior is very cute with its gazebo, red roof, pale gray-light blue exterior walls, and white window frames. Designated as a Morioka City Landscape Important Building. Once inside, there was a cafe and a sales office selling tasteful crafts.

I love the streets of the Konyamachi area, and have walked there with my children several times when they were small. Among the many historical buildings such as the red-brick Iwate Bank former head office and Goza-ku, Konyamachi Banya stands out with its Western-style exterior. Previously, you could not go inside, but after renovations, it has become a café and exhibits and sells wonderful crafts. My daughter and I went there for the first time in a while, and we ordered drinks and homemade sweets, and they were delicious. Thank you for the meal. Konsta (a ``town walking event'' where eraser stamps are collected from shops and facilities in the Nakatsugawa area) will be held from April 20th to May 26th, so you can enjoy delicious coffee and sweets again during this period. It’s a very laid-back coffee shop. The coffee is delicious and the space is comfortable. It’s worth coming here to relax.
