Nice place only when u apply for the local tour, visiting coal mine, walk inside the tunnel, and go through with all abandoned facilities. Unluck that I know nothing about Japanese language, thus juz can understand by body motion. However, it is much better experience compare to gunkanjma, much more freedom

A very surreal experience, highly recommended. It feels like an apocalyptic dystopia

For sightseeing purposes, we took a leisurely walk around the island and took part in a tour. There are some parts of the tour that you can't see unless you're on tour. You can ride a mine cart or enter a coal mine tunnel. You can listen to the vivid stories of people who actually worked in coal mines until they were around 40 years old, nearly 20 years ago. I received a mine fragment as a souvenir. There are some parts of the island that you won't be able to see if you just take the tour, so we recommend that you take a boat before or after the tour so you have plenty of time to see the island. The apartment building where I lived at that time is now almost in ruins. However, there are also residents in the apartment. I think the population will continue to decrease and eventually it will become like Gunkanjima.

Ikeshima Coal Mine 池島炭鉱 is a coal mining district in Ikeshima Castle. It is a coal mining facility that is currently not in operation and boasts a gloomy appearance day or night. It is a ruined place and many people come to take pictures of its unusual appearance. You cannot go inside most facilities, and you can only tour and take photos from the outside.

You can efficiently tour the inside of the Mitsui Ikejima Coal Mine, related facilities, and Ikeshima as a whole. Held approximately from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A tour of the coal mine tunnels, related facilities, mine staff housing, and the entire island. I walk quite a bit. In addition to experiencing working inside a coal mine, riding a trolley, and touring various facilities, you can also experience the atmosphere created by large facilities that are no longer in use, power plants, factories, and residences. Prepare your own lunch in advance. On holidays, it is also possible to make reservations for bento lunches to be arranged locally. Closed on Wednesdays. The participation fee for the mine tour + optional island tour is 3,170 yen, and advance reservations are required online or by phone. If you are visiting for a day trip from Nagasaki City, use the local bus (transfer at Sakura no Sato Terminal on the way) and ferry. The train departs from Nagasaki Station at 8:20 a.m. and returns before 6:00 p.m. For local lodging, in addition to lodging facilities on the island (Ikejima Central Kaikan), there is also a lodging facility called Hotel Sotome Inn located on the upper floor of the Kamoura Port Terminal Building on the mainland side of the ferry.
