Oita Marine Palace Aquarium "Umitamago"

Absolutely miserable place. Animals in tiny spaces. Seals swimming in circles for ages at a time because they're going crazy being locked up in small pools. One seal was constantly building up speed and jumping out to nearly smash into the window. Do NOT go here, it's a horrible experience. I nearly cried. Poor animals

Umitama and dolphin shows are excellent. Be there earlier than show time to get seats. Many others to have experience with sea animals.

I went here just after the baby of Walrus was opened to the public. It was so cute.

The aquarium is very small, has a beautiful view, and is not difficult to travel from Beppu City. There are interesting animal shows. But you should check the show times first. In order not to miss the cute souvenir show.
