Really nice rustic old town to visit when in the Fukushima region. However, most of the shops were closed when we went there after 3pm. We had a really nice time walking around the straw roofed houses. Spent around 1-2 hours there.

It is a nice place but without a car it's incredibly hard and expensive to get there ... wouldn't recommend it. The shops all sell pretty much the same stuff and I have seen lots of it at other tourist destinations across the country also the town is super small. Still the place looks nice and if you have a car and are anywhere near I'd recommend, just don't do the trouble to travel here from far away only to see it. I walked from Yunokami Onsen Station ~6km and was lucky that both ways some nice people stopped and took me with them with their car as it's kinda dangerous (signs warning for aggressive Bears) also almost no trains so chance is good you will need to wait one or more hours :/

Mini shirakawago with the little huts covered in snow. Very picturesque Quite difficult to get to this place, we made a few transits from Aizuwakamatzu. Bus tickets can be bought on the train from Aizu. During our visit, people was busily preparing for the snow festival about to happen in a few days. The beautiful picture of little huts could be taken at the viewpoint up the slope, it took a few minutes to walk up there. Beware of the slippery trail though It took around 3 hours to visit this place

You can buy a bus ticket to the Ouchi from the Yunokamionsen Station, turn left from the exit gate. Please check the bus schedule. Most visitors are locals tourists, not so many foreigners. You can get the english version information from the bus driver. If you came here in a sunny day, I recommend you to have your mask cause it lil bit dusty. There are lots of various shop and restaurants.

The ancient village … There is a souvenir shop, a sake shop… The day I travelled, the weather was bad…The walkway is full of ice, making it slippery. A moment that should be immersed in the surrounding beautiful atmosphere.
