Stone path, beautiful view, but hard to walk on these terrain. They will train your leg muscle. Will be slippery it the path is wet. Not quite walking friendly. Steep and uneven angle. Just be careful!

1/2023 Beautiful pathway! But it can be pretty tough for the toes in your sneakers 👟 (going downhill) and I almost sprained my ankle, so better keep close watch where you place your feet! (Especially if you’re already tired after hours of walking around Shuri)

Many visitors are not aware of this beautiful stone path just a few minutes walk south of Shuri Castle. This path is listed as one of the 100 traditional paths in Japan. The path retains the atmosphere of the old Ryukyu dynasty and some portions of the path are very scenic. It takes 10 minutes to walk along the whole path downhill from Shuri Castle, but if you want to return to Shuri Castle, the uphill climb takes 15-20 minutes due to the steep gradient. It's also interesting to wander along the side alleys and take a break at the traditional village house (金城村屋) halfway up/down the path.

At first I wasn’t sure if it was worth it to make a (small) detour from the castle but ‘ really happy I did walk through this ancient, charming and quiet streets full of genius loci.

It's a about 1km narrow road made of raw stones. There are many interesting spots - stairs, a house door, a cat and various tropical plants. Walking is a challenge in some places as the steps are bended down. I feel I am in Italy.
