Taishodo Cave

The cave is currently closed. Recent heavy rain has damaged the cave lighting, so there is no entry until it can be repaired. Apparently.

Although it doesn't have the same scale as Akiyoshi Cave or an exploration course like Kagekiyo Cave, I was able to see it at a leisurely pace without getting tired. It seems to have been used in the sound effects of the cave in Yatsu Tomb Village in the 1977 version of the movie. The area around the cave is mysterious and surrounded by nature.

The office is a short walk from the parking lot. So we paid the entrance fee of 1100 yen and went to the cave. You can borrow a light and a radio for explanations. The cave is not as big or famous as Akiyoshido, and there are not many tourists. Even so, you can still take a tour inside the impressive cave. There is a separate course for those who want to explore in earnest, and several young people were having fun getting covered in mud. A normal tour of the entire course takes about 30 minutes. If you want to take a thorough look, I think you can walk around it in about an hour. It was cool and pleasant inside the cave. Also, the parking lot is a little far away. There were toilets, a small store, and vending machines in the parking lot.

According to a previous comment, it seems to have been closed, but as of March 2024, it has reopened and I was able to enter the cave. Adults: 1,100 yen (discounts available for JAF members, etc.) This limestone cave is newer than Akiyoshido, so you can feel that it will continue to grow over many years. The rock ceiling is low, so it might be a good idea to bring your bicycle helmet.

It was my first time here, and the lights weren't on yet. It's hot outside but cool inside, and the course takes about 30 minutes.
