This is one of five famous cherry blossom trees in Japan. It's about 800 years old and it is hn the very small temple.

One of Japan's five designated "great" sakura. Approximately 800 years old. Small festival held nearby when it is in bloom.

It is one of the Gozakura (Japan's Five Great Cherry Blossoms) that was designated as a natural monument in 1923, and is an 800-year-old log of Kabazakura (originally there was only one cherry tree in the world, but now it is a city revitalized by the town. Minamoto no Noriyori (younger brother of Yoritomo, who founded the Kamakura shogunate, and older brother of Yoshitsune), a prominent figure in the Kamakura shogunate, was suspected of plotting and was exiled to Izu, where he was likely to be executed. There is a legend that the cane that he used at that time took root in this Kamazakura (there is also a theory that Minamoto no Noriyori planted it). Although it is an old tree, it still blooms beautiful flowers, but there are so many people during the cherry blossom viewing season that it is difficult to relax, so this time I visited during the season of fresh greenery. (There are many cherries on the ground...)

Considering the fact that the cherry blossoms have fallen off quite a bit over time, and the cherry blossoms are starting to turn yellow, I was disappointed. It's nice to have a really small temple and precincts, but I think the cherry blossoms are one of the best in Japan only if they are maintained along with the surrounding environment, but even though this area is a valuable tourist resource, it is not being utilized, and it seems like it can be found anywhere. It looked like a spot where some cherry blossoms were blooming. Other people who came to see the cherry blossoms also looked at them with a somewhat disappointing feeling. I don't think it will happen again, even if it happens once.
