Took a ferry to Hatenohama! Beautiful sandbar off of Kumejima. Our hotel booked with KET company with English speaking staff. However, we only had 1 hour on Hatenohama and glass bottom tour to and from. Staff at KeT were great. We would have preferred the option with more time and told as we reserved that wasn't an option. For those snorkeling it was a really quick time hack. As long as hotel staff reserve your ferry, I would go with another company to get more time on the island. We found a Japanese company that gives 2-3 hours on Hatenohama.

Island hopping is the best thing about living in Okinawa. 6 stars for Hate-no-hama. These pictures are 2 days before Typhoon Khanun hits Kumejima.

Great place to just relax.. swim or snorkel.. 2 hrs here would be good. unfortunately the day trip boat only allocate 1hr to enjoy the sand bar and pacific ocean. crystal clear water.

This place is beautiful, but it looks nicer in pictures than it actually is. There is just one outhouse on island, so remind your kids to poop before hoping on the boat. The beach is full of trash, but the water is crystal clear and there are a decent number of fish and small bits of living coral near the sandbar. The best part for us was the glass-bottomed boat stoping to see sea turtles on the way back to port. The sandbar itself was a little overwhelming, but if you step back and take the entirety of it in then it is worth it for a one time visit.

If you temper your expectations you’ll like it. There was a lot of rubbish on the sand bank. The people running (?) it require you to wear a life jacket when swimming in the small designated area, no swimming out of that area. The sand right near the waters edge is very nice as is the water. It is a place to relax, not for snorkelling.
