The entire site is just beautiful and so peaceful. There is no entrance fee and it is pretty close at walking distance from Nagano station. We just lost ourselves and spent more than an hour in the area enjoying the beautiful architecture. Fortunately it was a weekday and there were not many people around. On your way to the temple you will also pass by traditional Japanese houses which are just so beautiful a d picturesque. Definitely a recommended spot when visiting Nagano.

Amazingly big temple with lots to see. You can either decide to walk or take the train. By walking you will go uphill a lot, so if you dont have the stamina (or when its very hot) you might want to use the bus service instead. The walk is fun, you see a lot of things on the way to the temple like Nakamise street.

What a beautiful place 30 minutes on foot from Nagano Station. Worth the visit, and the entrance is free. Everything clean and well conserved. I enjoyed the sunset there.

We went there during the winter and it was magical. We were walking around in Nagano and we didn’t expect discovering such a beautiful place. This old Buddhist temple made of wood with all this snow and the mountains in the background is something I will always remember ! There is a lot of things to see around it, super peaceful. That’s the definitely why I came to visit Japan, pure culture ! Don’t hesitate to come and visit

Very nice and pretty big temple with underground tunnel with no light to preview "life after death". It is worth going there slightly before 5 so as people won't spoil your photos :) on the way there, there is plenty of shops so you can treat yourself or buy some presents for your closest ones.
