We walked through the Nagamachi District also known as the Samurai district and we enjoyed our time here. The neighborhood is quaint with traditional houses and small streets. It was not too crowded which also helped enjoy the experience even more. There are some pretty nice shops there and the residence of a Samurai which you can visit for 550 yen/person, but it was too late for us. The small garden dotted here and there were my favorite part, highlighting the beautiful Japanese style.

Quaint traditional part of town that wasn’t crowded. There are a few small museums and art shops here. There is limited shade so we came mid-afternoon when it was a little cooler. Easy to get to via bus or on foot.

Great little samurai district of Japan. It's Not a Super Happening spot BUT does give you a glimpse and feel of the Samurais Life as you walk the neighborhood, especially, if you visit the Samurai House which is the highlight, we felt, of the area. ENJOY!!

Traditional houses and a great neighbourhood to walk around. Toilets and vending machines, accessible by bus, close to the river. However, not possible to see Geishas around as some tourist guides might make you think.

We had a one-day stop at Kanazawa between our trips to Tokyo & Kyoto. This small city is easily accessible via Shinkansen and one day is enough to cover its main attractions. There are plenty of districts to explore by foot and Samurai district (aka Nagamachi) was definitely one of the favourites. The district seemed to be more luxury than the other districts since Samurais were among the top earning groups in the past. There are many nice little shops and traditional houses in this district to explore.
