A rock pillar that stands through a cut that was built to channel water from Lake Hane, which has now disappeared due to land reclamation, into the sea. A pine tree grows on the top of the rock, and it is a monument to the flood control work that was carried out during the Kamakura period. The area near the sea surface is narrower due to wave erosion. Although it is artificial, it is not bad as a scenic spot. Originally it was a minor place, but it became famous after being painted by Takeda Kason, a painter from Izumo City. The coast is off-limits, so you can't get a close look at it. The opposite shore is also blocked by railroad tracks, making it impossible to enter. You can only see it from a limited number of places or from the train window on the San'in Main Line. Parking space available, no toilets. It is recommended to visit during the warmer months.

There is space to park your car. Next to the railroad tracks. It says trespassing is prohibited, so you can only see from this angle. But it's beautiful and it's easy to see, so it's nice.

Kagado Matsushima reminds me of Candle Island in the Oki Islands. Kakedo Matsushima is a scenic spot with cliffs and strangely shaped rocks that can be seen from land, making it even more impressive. Originally, there was a small hill here, so the Sea of Japan could not be seen. Apparently, half a century ago, a brackish lake (a lake whose water is mixed with seawater) frequently flooded. Therefore, a channel was built to drain the water from the lake to the sea. The rock that stands at the end of this waterway is called ``Matsushima,'' and along with the ``Ipponmatsu'' that stands at the tip of the rock, it was named ``Kakedo Matsushima.'' There is a railroad crossing on the JR San'in Main Line right next to the entrance, and there is a lot of car traffic, so be careful when entering the parking lot. I heard that the sunset view in summer, where you can see the stone pagoda and the sunset at the same time, is especially wonderful.

It is a famous sunset spot in Shimane Prefecture. There is not a well-developed parking lot, but there is space for several cars and there were people parking there. It may be a bit far to walk from the nearest station, Nami Station. Perhaps because of the location, it's not as crowded as the sunset spots at Lake Shinji, so I think it's best to come just before sunset.
