Miyajima Ropeway

Awesome way to see the stunning views and to get to the top where there's an observation deck, shrine and quite a few other hiking options! Of course, there are drink vending machines at the top, too! Some of the photos from this review are of the hike to the observation deck at the top! It's about 20 minutes walk from the top (second) cable car station 🚠

This cable car takes visitors up Mount Misen. A return ticket costs 2000 yen. It can be booked directly on site or in advance on the website. The ride is divided into two parts. Visitors have to change trains at an intermediate station. Access is not barrier-free. From the mountain station, you have to walk for about half an hour to get to the top of the mountain.

Went to Hiroshima for a long weekend in mid September and stayed a whole day in Miyajima island. We took the cable car in the morning and enjoyed a smooth ride with scenic views up to the highest level possible. Price for the ride one way was 1200 ¥. From there we hiked up to the peek of Mt. Misen. Please fill up your water supply at the exit of the cable car, as there is no more supply after this. The view from the summit is stunning and you can enjoy a 360 degree outlook from there. On the way up you come across a lot of interesting shrines and rock formations. Please be aware, that the entire hike is full of stairs. For people with health issues I would recommend to stay at the observatory close to the cable car exit. You have also great views from there. We took the route down hill to the Daishoin Temple which was just beautiful. If you have the time and your physical condition is ok, I would highly recommend this half day tour!

Pretty amazing view and climb on the miyajima ropeway, do come earlier if you are planning to ascent to the top. Can be quite crowded during mid day

Definitely recommend taking the ropeway up, as it saves you a lot of effort. Walking down is doable, but wear good shoes and be prepared for many stairs. Also there is poisonous snakes, so walk carefully (or go down with the ropeway).
