Senkoji Temple

A step back in time .....with seemingly endless alleyways....stairs... shrines. Hidden little coffee & tea shops ...ancient temples... I think more quaint and somewhat more enjoyable than Kyoto..which can seem overwhelming. Go and lose yourself in the myriad of walkways and paths...

I went up walking, the way up is a bit steep but the views from the temple are totally worth it.

One of the popular tourist destinations in Onomichi. It offers great views of the town and the neighboring islands. You can either get by car, by a ropeway that runs every 15 minutes or by foot. Walking up to the mountain doesn’t seem a difficult task as long as it is not summer. Otherwise going down walking is the only alternative; it doesn’t take longer than 10 minutes.

The best view in a lovely place. One of the highlight of Onomichi (with the bike ride toward shikoku and the food 😁) Great view for everyone (i walked up the stairs but there is a cable car). The gardens (in small terraces) along the way are very relaxing and romantic. The temple is nice too but the view is everything. I went there during hanami, it’s even better but even outside outside of hanami i should be good.

Beautiful hillside temple with interesting statues, structures and great views of Onomichi harbor and town below. You can walk up in about 15 minutes or take the cable car up.
