An exceptional old traditional house in the old town. The interior garden is magnificent, and you can learn about the history of the place

Nestled in the heart of Nara's historic district, Naramachi Nigiwai-no-le is a charming old house that offers a delightful glimpse into the traditional lifestyle of Japan's past. During my recent visit to Nara, I stumbled upon this hidden gem and was captivated by its nostalgic charisma.

Old mansion builded for a local poet. A nice alternative to the too obvious and overcrowded shrines. Typical from Taisho era. Not for you if you don’t enjoy traditional japanese architecture. And not as rich as other machiyas in Japan. But it worth a visit. Bonus : the surrounding streets are peacefull and atmospheric. There is a cosy cafe in the adjacent street.

Free entrance. Very peaceful and quiet. Not that many people which is surprising. I wanted to gate keep this place but honestly it’s too good to just keep to yourself.

🏠👏This is a wonderful oportunity to know how was an original house in ancient times. You can enter and visit every single room in that home, that was of a family dedicated to trading. The home is beautiful, in perfect shape. I recomend you to go and walk around this área of the City, you will find wonderful treasures. Free entran e which is even better.
