I visited on April 21, 2024. Since I went on a cherry blossom viewing tour in Tohoku, it can't be helped that depending on the location, the cherry blossom season may be delayed from when it's in full bloom. This Kitakami scenic spot had already passed its peak. However, it was so crowded that I couldn't get into the parking lot. The adjacent Folk Village wasn't crowded, but the parking lot is lined with cherry blossom trees, so during the cherry blossom season, the roads along the way are congested, making it difficult to get there. I am thankful that you can enter the Folk Village for free. Of course, parking is also free. Michinoku Folk Village is one of the leading open-air museums in the Tohoku region, where traditional thatched houses from the Kitakami River basin and its surrounding areas have been relocated and restored. A total of 28 buildings, including 10 thatched houses and the former Kurosawajiri Girls' High School building, which retains the appearance of Taisho architecture, are scattered on a site of about 7 hectares in the mountains, creating a nostalgic landscape of the past. It was spreading. From Jinyagaoka, a small hill at the back of the folk village's parking lot, you can see the cherry blossom trees of Kitakami Tenshochi from above.

As you cross the road in front of the exhibition grounds, you will gradually feel as if you are stepping back in time.As you pass by a watermill, you will see well-maintained thatched houses, although they may not be in use. You will encounter the scenery of the area. There is a pond in the middle and the sound of many wind chimes echoing. It is a place that you can enjoy in a short time, about 30 minutes, until you turn around and get down to the road.

It's quite spacious! And it's free! There are many old houses that have been relocated. We even have free guides! There must have been a lot of visitors when it opened... It's a shame that it's gone like this... If we can attract movie shootings, the number of customers will likely increase.
