Visited on Monday, May 13, 2024 This location is a bit out of the way from other attractions, but it offers a peaceful atmosphere and history of local persons. I would not call it a museum of folklore, but rather a house of history. The name was misleading to us, and while I would have visited either way, it is something to consider when planning a stop. There is no folklore involved, just the history of the previous owner of the home and lands, with artifacts from his life and textiles from the area. Indigo dying is an example. It cost 1,000 yen to enter, which I thought was high given similar experiences for less, but I understand the desire to preserve the history in this remote location. Overall, I would recommend visiting this location if you are already in the area, but I would not necessarily make a detour out of my way if I was not already in the area. It took less than an hour to see everything, and it was a bit of a drive to and from other locations.

Stunning place, wonderful views, very cool history. I wish my Japanese was better as there are limited English descriptions inside and I didn't want to use my phone translation app as photos are not allowed, and I didn't want to be mistaken for taking photos! There is an English summary we received with our ticket however and that was a good starting point. Thank you for sharing your family history and area context.

Important history and historical person of the Iya Valley. I went there as part of a bus tour, and I didn’t have enough time to go through at my own pace. It’s definitely interesting to learn more about these stories of the local places. Many surprising things to learn.

The museum is too small, but has many antiques. The fee is 500yen. They has english guild. The parting is up on the hill not far from the ticket office. After the gate, you need to walk up on the hill to the house.
