Was a wonderful day at the caves! It was fun having the dragon roar when you clapped. The views were gorgeous and we loved spending time on the rocks at the beach. There are tons of stairs. My child argued with me when I said the stairs multiplied on the way back, but others agreed with me at the time. On the way up you can pay to use an escalator, we didn't know that so did the stairs. It's only available for the way to the caves, not coming back. The turtles were adorable. Also, try the Denim Ice cream! Can't wait to go again.

The Enoshima Iwaya Cave is a fascinating site to explore. Upon entering, visitors are given small lanterns that light the way through the dimly lit passages, adding a sense of adventure to the experience. The caves, formed over thousands of years by the erosive forces of the ocean, are rich in history and natural beauty. Inside the Iwaya Caves, you'll find a series of chambers and narrow corridors adorned with intriguing rock formations and ancient carvings. Some areas house small shrines dedicated to the gods of the sea, reflecting the spiritual significance of the caves in Japanese culture. The cool, damp air and the sound of dripping water create a unique and atmospheric environment, making the journey through the caves both eerie and exciting.

The cave itself is not too big to explore. But the surrounding seashore outside the cave is magnificent. You can see the Mt Fuji along the rocky seaside. From there the sunset is just fantastic.

I suggest getting the one day tourist pass for Enoshima Island which includes entrance to the caves, the observation deck (Sea Candle), the garden, and the elevators. It’s only ¥1100 and you can purchase them at the Katase Enoshima tourist info center. The wait time to enter the caves was quite long. Took us over 30 minutes to enter as the line was massive. Once inside they give you a small candle to walk with through the crouching parts of the cave. There are two caves. The other one has a sound activated dragon in it where you can go up and clap in front of it to set off thunder noises and lights. Pretty good view of the pacific from the caves as well. Doesn’t take long at all to walk through the caves however the walk down to the caves and back up can be quite tough with the stairs. If you come to Enoshima you have to visit the caves though.

Visited with my son and it was the best unplanned experience ever. Loved the story of the dragon and maiden. Beautiful cave! And! First time encountered a lioness breastfeeding her cub in a shrine entrance (usually two lions!). It should be this way a feminine and masculine tandem. Will be back with my other kids! Thank you for the candle 🕯️!
