The pine trees symbolized the beauty of the island, but they withered due to damage from pine beetles. The current pine trees were replanted by volunteers. In the early Heian period, Kose no Kanaoka, a leading figure in the art world at the time, attempted to paint it, but was unable to depict the beauty changing from morning to evening, and it is said that he finally gave up his brush. It came to be called ``Fudege Island'' from an anecdote. However, this giant Mr. Kanaoka seems to be throwing his brushes all over Japan.

It's a historic place. When you think that people were in this place 1000 years ago, you feel the accumulation of time. The artist at the time must have been very worried because his expression changed in the morning and in the evening.

I can understand why the artist Naoka Kose was unable to capture the beauty of this painting and gave up on it.

Although it is a small island, the surrounding scenery is spectacular. You can park your car here, so I think it's a good idea to stop by on your way to Hinomisaki.
