Can’t emphasis enough what a pleasure this garden was. It was so nice to escape the mass crowds of Kyoto tourists at major attractions to come to this little known gem. The cable car return ride at just 2000 Yen was well worth the money, on top of the ride, we were treated to the most wonderful views of Kobe city, the Harbour, Airport and sea. The gardens were the most colourful of all the ones we have been to this summer in Japan. If visiting I would highly recommended the foot spar at the exit of the greenhouses, Its free and a very small towel is available for 100 Yen. Very relaxing with great views out to the airport. There are also PV protecting umbrellas free to use down at the lower level lift area. They are really useful on hot days.

An amazing place to spend an afternoon. The views from the ropeway are amazing if the weather is good. There are good food options at the top station. The walk down to the middle station is a little steep but broken up by the variety of gardens on the way. Highly recommended.

Behind Shin-Kobe station is a ropeway that will transport you to the top of the mountain range with the most incredible, landscaped and manicured gardens. Follow the path to the entrance. Take the lift and pay the entrance fee to the ropeway: highly recommend a return trip, particularly on a very hot day, as there is a lot of walking up and down slopes. The ropeway is a pleasant and breathtaking journey overlooking the entire city and port of Kobe. The cabins are clean and the windows are spotless, giving clean views and great opportunity for city photos. Upon reaching the top, we walked all around the gardens, checking out the rose garden and the sensory lab, where an old still is set up and one can sample lots of aromatherapy oils. The gift store has a wonderful selection of products including teas, herbs, honey and many others on offer. The glass houses on a lower level of the gardens are so pretty. The attendants have set up for Halloween! The veranda is the perfect spot for a drink and some more photo opportunities of Kobe. We also spent some time bathing our feet in a hot spring, a lovely treat for tired and sore feet! We had a wonderful adventure at the herb gardens and highly recommend a slow, meandering visit!

Took one way cable car ride up and walked down. They have a hiking map at the counter where the tickets are purchased, if needed. The hike towards waterfall/ shin-kobe station was a mixture of roads, dirt paths and stairs, and was well marked. A little steep at times. All in all a nice trip!

Recommend the Ropeway for time [we were on a limited time]. Bring ice water with you!! It was so hot in September! September 2024 and the gardens were a mix of bloom and pit of season. Plenty to see! Lots of activities scattered throughout the gardens too. The flowers and herbs smelled so good! Signs were in Japanese and English. Gift stores take major credit cards.
