The Ouchi clan residence is one of the top 100 castles. It is now Ryufuku-ji Temple, and there are still a moat and earthworks left within the temple grounds. It may be beautiful during the autumn leaves.

It is listed as one of the top 100 castles along with Takamine Castle, but it is far from the station, so I only visited this one. To be honest, there isn't much to see, but there are some restored earthworks, gate marks, and waterway ruins around the perimeter of the building. I couldn't rent a shared bicycle in front of Yamaguchi Station, so I rented a regular bicycle from a bicycle rental shop on the corner of the intersection. The garden has been restored and local children were playing by the water.

There are strong signs that they were trying to build a mansion that would blend into the cityscape rather than a castle. In the past, Yamaguchi University served as a receiving ground for court nobles and noble families who fled Kyoto, which had been burnt down and devastated many times during the wars that began with the Ashikaga Takauji Rebellion and the Onin War, which lasted 10 years. Inner house. (The other country is said to be the Toki family in Gifu.) Against this backdrop of the times, with the financial resources of these people as a backing, we created a city that was conscious of Kyoto at the time, and while focusing on the scenery, we also had to clear the defensive aspects. It looks like earthworks were being built up. The image may be similar to the Nijo Imperial Palace where Yoshiteru Ashikaga was attacked by the Miyoshi Sannin. I mainly worked here. Since the castle's defense power is almost non-existent, Takamine Castle was built as a block across the current bypass. This true intention and tatemae idea may have been put to good use in the later Hagi Castle. I arrived on April 2, 2024.

In the early Sengoku period, the Ouchi clan was swept away by the waves of the Gekokujo and fell into ruin. Motonari Mori, who defeated the rebel Su Harukata, later took control of this area. The Ouchi clan that I saw in the Taiga drama lived here. . .
