As most of the castle has been destroyed, the museum stands in its place. There are plenty of artifacts inside and seeing as all of the labels are in Japanese, non Japanese speakers need to rely on the guide book. The surrounding gardens are serene and stunning, the highlight of our visit. Only 50 Yen too!

Date of visit: July 12, 2023 Hyakumyojo No. 76, the seal of Hyakumyojo can be stamped directly here. It is recommended to visit the museum. The fee is only 300 yen, which also includes the cost of visiting the old Tokushima Castle Omote Palace Garden. It is a very Buddhist-friendly price. The Hosokawa clan built a castle here in 1385, but the scale was small. It was not until the Warring States Period that after the Shikoku conquests of Tokushima Castle, the Hachisuka clan built Hirayama Castle nearby in 1586. In the Edo period, it was the feudal hall of the Tokushima Domain, and the feudal lord He was the Hachisuka clan and lasted until the Meiji Restoration. After the city was abandoned in 1873, all the buildings except the Eagle Gate were demolished. However, the Washinomon Gate was burned down in the Great Tokushima Air Raid in 1945, and the current Washinomon Gate was restored in 1989. In addition to displaying the historical background of Tokushima Castle, the museum also introduces the local indigo dyeing of Tokushima. In addition, it also has a comfortable rest space where travelers can take a breather, take a rest and continue to experience the city of Tokushima.
