Awesome 400 year old Ginko tree. It's huge with beautiful green leaves during spring and summer and I'm late fall they turn bright yellow. Definitely worth a look if you're close by (not in winter Dec-Feb though, since there's no leaves).

A large ginkgo tree that is 400 years old and is characterized by its tree system that grows upwards without spreading horizontally. According to the explanation on the accompanying signboard, the height of the tree is engraved as 33m, but since the survey was carried out in 1952, it is thought that it has grown several meters further now. There is also a photo of how it was burnt during the air raid in 1945, so I think it would be nice to be able to compare it with the current state. The stone wall that is one step higher than the intersection is the remains of the earthworks of Utsunomiya Castle. Now it serves as a wall to protect the giant butterfly. Isn't it a good idea to sometimes pay attention to the existence of earthworks that would have been demolished if it weren't for the giant ginkgo?

It is a large ginkgo tree that is as tall as the roof of the building next door (9th floor). When I visited, it was turning a beautiful yellow color.

This is a large ginkgo tree that has been around for a long time. Although it has a long history, it has been pruned in consideration of the safety of nearby buildings and roads, so the ginkgo leaves are few compared to its height. Also, it is difficult to take impressive photos because it inevitably overlaps with neighboring buildings. It's also a shame that because there are buildings on the west side, the best time to visit is at dusk, when you are already in the shadow of the building. Since there are street lights, I recommend taking pictures at night with a camera set to high exposure so you can take pictures of the large tree's stomach without having to worry about surrounding buildings or shade. Of course, please be aware that if you walk around this area during the ginkgo leaves season, the smell will stick to your feet.
