Fun place to see with a lot of unique huge stone statues that were made about 50-80 years ago by Yasukichi Iwaoka, who entered the Buddhist priesthood at Koyasan. Great view of all Takanabe town and the pacific ocean. If you drive along the National Route 10, it’s worth visiting here since it takes only about 5 min. from the route 10. Cherry trees are planted on the hill, so good to visit especially in the cherry blossom season.

I had some time, so I stopped by and found it to be a very pleasant space with a great view. When I actually saw the rumored stone statue, I was impressed by its size. Each one has a unique face and a variety of motifs. Is this a neighbor? I had a lot of fun imagining things and looking around. There is a bakery about 10 minutes away by car that is open from 8 o'clock, so we recommend visiting after breakfast and then walking.

2024.8.30 A mysterious ambassador? It felt strange to see so many of them standing there lol I felt like it would be enough to go once. However, the view was amazing (◠‿◕) There is also a toilet and it is kept clean!

Around 1955, I went there many times on field trips with my first graders, or on foot for 40 to 50 minutes with friends from the neighborhood. At that time, it was called 88 places. When I went with friends, I bought a candle at a small shop at the foot of the mountain. There is a cave in the middle of Takanabe Daishi, and if you go through it by relying on the light of a candle and passing several Buddha statues along the way, you will be able to emerge beside the main image of Daishi's main hall. It was a bit of an adventure. It feels nostalgic as it is still cherished by the local community.

I often visit here to take pictures of the morning sun. It's not suitable for starscape photography, there is so much light pollution (city lights) that I couldn't take good pictures of the Milky Way even with a light pollution cut filter. It's good for just taking pictures of constellations. During the day, you can see the ocean, and if you're lucky, you can even see a sea of clouds. There are many couples doing strange things in the car on weekend nights. The stone statue is a little creepy😅
