Great place to learn about the local history in the Kofun period. Although there are not many artifacts owned by the museum, there are many booklets and objects that can help understanding the local history. You can also try wearing the ancient clothes for free! There are a few Kofuns nearby the museum. They are located on a hill across the street and have some explanations of each tomb.

It is located near the ruins of the Nishitani tomb group, which has four protruding tombs. You can learn about Izumo's history from an archaeological perspective, not only from the Yayoi period, but also from the detailed exhibitions and explanations of ancient tombs. Despite the extensive facilities, admission is free.

I visited to see the exhibition of the former Taisha station building. It's basically free, but there may be a charge for special exhibitions. I was so absorbed in the permanent exhibition that I ended up spending more time than I had planned, but I had a great time. I think it would be nice to take a walk around the group of ancient tombs in front of the museum.

It is an incredible place where you can see all the actual excavated items for free. Although the ``Shimane Prefectural Ancient Izumo History Museum'' is behind glass, there are some exhibits that are not behind glass, which is surprising. Also, don't miss the glass magatama beads that can only be found here! The grounds are dotted with royal tombs, and being able to actually stand on top of them is a valuable experience. It's about a 5 minute walk, so please give it a try. In addition, there are many exhibits related to the Taisha Line railway, so it's a must-see for anyone interested in railways!

There are artifacts excavated from Kunitomi Nakamura Tumulus and Kamishioji Tsukiyama Tumulus that have not been stolen, both of which are top-class items, but why are they free when they are in a free museum? I thought it was strange, but Izumo is full of ruins, and I arrived there two minutes before closing, so I had no choice but to stay in the parking lot and the next morning, I continued touring until it was close to closing. We looked around at the tombs inside and outside the museum, and it started raining, so we ended up staying the night. The shape of the Izumo King's burial mound is a tomb with four protruding corners, which was my first time seeing it, so it was an exciting learning experience.
