Marine station "Naoshima"

They sell ice cream, curry rice, drinks, and bread. They also sell boat tickets. A cool place to rest. Not very big.

Like a lot of ferry terminals a bit manic but just as well organised as all transportation in Japan. You can watch the ferries come in and out. The shop , restaurant and information are all in the same building. Bike rental opposite.

Getting in and off the boat is very convenient to get to the bike rentals. When you are returning back to either Uno or Takamatsu, you can see the famous red art installation before you leave. You can definitely save it till last if you leave a bit of time. We bought the round trip tickets, used over two days. Very cheap and convenient since we were staying on Naoshima for a night. The boat ride to Uno Station area was 20 minutes, which is almost too short as the ride was very nice.

These folks deal with boatloads of tourists, all day every day, and they are kind and helpful. The operation is very well organized and easy to understand, the boats are quick and efficient and very pleasant for a 20 minute ride across the inland sea.

The marine station is the entry point of this island. You can get a glimpse of what Naoshima has to offer here. The island attracts tourists wanting to indulge in art. famous museums are located here. You can get yourself a bus, a bicycle or a motorbike to go around the island.
