It was one of my goals to go here to photograph the terraced fields on my trip to the area. I lucked out with the weather and the time of year. On Sep. 23, they were just harvesting the fields and there were scarecrows on display, but some were a bit blown over. The area is managed by an NPO and families pay to be members and harvest the rice. Entrance is free, but apparently you are asked to pay 500 yen for parking. We got there at 9:30 on a Saturday and there were already lots of cars so just kind of parked on the road and didn't know to pay. The car navigation also couldn't get us there, so had to use Google maps and intuition until we hit some small signs. There's no food, but a small rest house with a drink machine and rice for sale. The terraces are not on the huge scale of those you might see in National Geographic, but photographers will enjoy the landscape and view.

Tucked away in the quiet hills of Sanada in Ueda City, this is one of Japan's 100 best rice terrace views! It overlooks the city and the Ueda Roman Bridge. Looked great in spring when the farmers irrigated the fields and the sky is reflected in the waters; also looking forward to autumn when the crops turn golden. Apparently fireflies appear at night in summer too. There is a cafe/restaurant further up the hills with nice food and awesome views.

Mid-September 2024, weekday noon. It was a weekday so it was empty. The sky is clear and the ears of rice are changing colors, making for a great view. This year's rice was sold out.

R6.6.15 (Sat) I like Okazaki Sake Brewery, so I visited it along with sightseeing around the brewery😊I arrived around 10am. It seemed that work on the rice terraces was about to begin, and everyone was leaving in light trucks. I was impressed by the wonderful scenery ♬ We received a donation for the conservation of rice terraces, and received an amulet containing rice as a souvenir😊
