This is a interesting historical site, quietly located along the seaside. Recommend to walk up the hiking trial- not too high but with a good view overlooking the hourbour

Visited in January 2020. Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution with conserved Dutch architecture built in 1884. Used to operate as factories and warehouses for ion and steel, shipbuilding and coal mining. The port has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015. This is a very underrated place, a hidden gem in an off the beaten path. Very quiet and calm, worth a visit.

The Misumi West Port (三角西港, Misumi Nishikō) is a historic port built by the government in 1884 to promote industry after the Meiji Restoration. Its location along the Ariake Sea in Kumamoto Prefecture was chosen due to the naturally deep waters which could accommodate large ships. It was designed by Anthonie Rouwenhorst Mulder, a Dutch hydraulic engineer invited by the government. The port developed into a major shipping point for coal from the Miike Coal Mines as well as commodities like rice, wheat and flour. In 2015, it was registered as one of the World Heritage Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution.

A quiet little spot that has a preserved merchant house to visit free of charge. There is a restaurant with windows that face the bay for a fabulous view while you dine. Recommended spot on the way into Amakusa. There are period houses for a nice backdrop to take pictures. One of the shops offer costumes for rent if you can fit into them.
