One of my favorite things about Japan is how the old (sometimes really old) and new coexist, and are respected. These castle ruins and elementary school is a prime example. First off it's beautiful. Right on the water, Oita in the distance, super scenic. But for me, that it's on the elementary school grounds (a middle school is right next door) is such a cool blend, so unique. The school kids have it so nice here, their respect for the ruins is apparent. 2023

The castle is no longer there. However, there was an elementary school and the stairs are still intact. Quite interesting to see if you are into Japanese historical building.

In the second half of Golden Week, I went around the area and took a leisurely stroll! ️Hide Castle Castle Tower happened to be an elementary school when I went up to the top from the castle park side, and I asked the parents and people who were playing on the ground, and I was able to walk along the fence and climb it for a while 🙇🙇 It's so big. Although it wasn't that big of a space, the castle walls leading up to the top had a nice atmosphere, and the view was amazing 🎵🎵

This castle is also known as Hideyoshi Castle, and was built by Nobutoshi Kinoshita (the first lord of the Hiji domain), the son of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's legal wife Nene's older brother, with the support of his brother-in-law, Tadaoki Hosokawa. The land was ruled by the Kinoshita family until the Meiji Restoration. Nobutoshi is also the older brother of the famous Hideaki Kobayakawa. Because he is related to Toyotomi, the true identity of Nobutoshi Kinoshita's fourth son Nobuyoshi is Kunimatsu, the illegitimate son of Toyotomi Hideyori, who was supposed to have perished in the Summer Siege in Osaka, but who had actually fled to Satsuma with Hideyori and was hidden by the Shimazu clan. There is also a different theory that it is. The bottom of the sea that spreads out below this castle is brackish water with fresh water gushing out, and the flatfish that grows in this area has been known since ancient times to have no muddy odor, and to have a light and elegant taste, and is now a branded fish. It is called "Joshika Kareni".

This is the birthplace of composer Rentaro Taki's father. There are still magnificent stone walls left, which is very fascinating♪ There is an elementary school built around the castle tower, so you cannot enter, but it is worth taking a walk while looking at the stone walls. Beppu Bay is right next door, so just looking at the ocean with a nice view will soothe your soul.
