Narai-juku is an authentic road lined with beautiful and old Japanese wooden buildings on both sides. When I visited, bamboo and paper decorations were hung on each house to celebrate the Tanabata festival, adding a festive and colorful atmosphere. However, even though it was a weekday with fewer visitors, there were still some waits at the main restaurants and cafes (there aren’t that many options available). A more critical point to note is that most of the buildings lack air conditioning—probably to preserve the traditional structures. So, if you visit during the peak of summer, you might find it challenging to enjoy the area comfortably. Despite this, it’s undoubtedly a special and beautiful place to explore!

A quaint Japanese village with houses and shops lining both sides of the street leading to the Shizumejinja Shrine. It is easily accessible from Matsumoto by train costing 590¥ one way. There is free WIFI at Narai Juku - no password needed: Shiojiri Free Wi-Fi. The must try food here is the Soba. For coffee, there are many alternatives on the street and two more on the other side near the Kiso Ohashi Bridge.

Along the nakasendo, this is the farthest from Nagoya but nearest to Matsumoto. I would recommend to come this one as this is the most authentic and nicest of all others. If u want to take photos with empty street, come here after 430pm.

Very cute little village with ancient buildings and beautiful shrines. Friendly people everywhere. Please visit the cafe run by two elderly women, they are just too cute and make amazing cakes!

No matter what time I visit, it’s a place that refreshes my mind. People are so nice and kind, and buildings are so pretty. This time I went for a day trip, but next time I would like to stay.
