I had been interested in this museum for a while, but this was the first time I had the opportunity to enter it. Mikata Goko is a place that only those in the know know about, as there are many places that are familiar with ancient history, such as the Varve Museum. When you enter the Jomon Museum, there are many excavated artifacts used by ancient people on display in a large space. On the way back, I bought some cute clay figurines to use as ornaments.

No photos are allowed as photography is prohibited in the museum. You can enjoy the exhibits of life at the time, excavated dugout canoes, earthenware, agricultural tools, hunting equipment, and other things related to life. The BGM and other productions had a good atmosphere as well. If you walk a little further, you will come across a pit-style dwelling and some kind of monument.

I'm not inside though If you want to take photos, it might be okay just outside. There is also a roadside station and varve museum nearby.

Visited around 12:00 on March 15, 2024. I stopped by after purchasing some pickled plums at the shop I always visit along the Mikata Five Lakes. The duration of stay is about 1 hour.Dogs will love it as the weeds are well mowed and there are plenty of soil areas. Walking the dog is ⭐5. There is a hometown forest that is being regenerated with waterfowl observation huts and maintenance projects, which may be exciting for those who love living things. I previously visited the Varve Museum, which introduces disasters such as global climate change, volcanic eruptions, and earthquakes through analysis of sediments from Lake Suigetsu. If I had been able to visit a museum like this when I was a child, I would have become a researcher by now. 😱It's a great museum. I would like the Jomon Museum to incorporate the latest knowledge and aim to become a 21st century museum.

I didn't know about [varves], so I stopped by on my drive with only a short time limit. The inside of the museum is new and clean (it's been 5 years), and I was especially surprised by the varves on display. There aren't many exhibits, so it's hard to imagine repeat visitors, but I definitely want to go again❗ Also, I want to go to the lake! ️
