Easily one of the most beautiful museum I've been to in Japan. I last went close to a decade ago and I've been waiting ever since to return. Beautiful architecture in such a serene location only adds to the amazing exhibits on display. It's moody, it's quiet and it's contemplative inside with massive ceilings and a very freeform approach to looking at the art and exhibits on display If I could give more than 5 stars I happily would. It's a beautiful museum that's well worth your time. I'm already thinking about next time I can go back Highly recommend!!

A nice itinerary for a day tour when in Dazaifu. A very spacious museum. The main gallery is on the top most floor. Special exhibit is on the 2nd level. There is too much space, almost like an airport. The museum is so big, with only 1 permanent exhibit hall just divided into different galleries

When visiting Dazaifu, it is possible to see a large collection of art and artifacts from the history of the island of Kyushu in a very modern and huge building of interesting design. Prehistoric finds and archaeological excavations. A large number of art objects from private collections. I definitely recommend visiting this place when visiting Dazaif.

Very extensive museum covering the history of Kyushu. It's located next to Dazaifu Tenmangu shrine so both can be visited on the same day from Fukuoka. Inside, you'll find all sorts of artifacts from the Jomon period, Buddhism in Japan, and especially the history of trade with China, Korea, and the west.

Nice museum that details the history of Japan dated 4000yrs ago to the late 19th century. Only one floor was opened and not sure if there are any more exhibition floors
