Quiet tourist spot. So peaceful in fact, that we didn't really know where to get started. There is a QR code on the tourist sign which redirects you to a PDF download about the attractions. So that's a good start I guess. There are some old houses 🏠 to visit. But not very sure what the "saw tooth ridges of lattice windows" was supposed to be, as mentioned in the writeup. Guessing it's the uneven bars in front of the windows. Spent approximately 20 minutes. Perhaps having a local guide would have been helpful, if there even is such an arrangement. Whatever shops they had here didn't seem opened for business. And wandering through the alleys seemed a bit intrusive, as if walking through other residents backyards. Overall, a good chance to observe what life in a Japanese neighborhood looks like.

Although I haven’t seen many stores open It's a very peaceful community But take a slow walk and look at these historical buildings It can also make people feel happy But in mid-September even in the afternoon The weather is still very hot

The streets of Kuroe, the city of lacquerware. There are very few lacquerware shops, but you can enjoy just looking at the quaint townscape. Events that take advantage of this scenery are held several times a year.

It's about a 10-minute walk from JR Kuroe Station, and it's a row of quaint houses. It is said that it flourished as a lacquerware town during the Edo period, but it is small as a tourist destination. There is also a sake brewery, so you can buy some lacquered sake cups and sake to take home and have a drink at home. I would have liked a little more explanation, such as the saw-shaped row of houses. Chiben Wakayama High School, famous for high school baseball, seems to be nearby. I visited again on 2022/11/05 (Sat) as the Lacquerware Festival was being held. I was able to purchase some very good lacquerware at a great price.
