When you arrive at the parking lot, you will be greeted by a large rock wall with columnar joints created by the massive eruption of Mt. Ontake! You can see a very impressive view. There is a promenade to see Mittaki Waterfall in the back, and the air is so clear that I felt like I was being welcomed by the spirit of Mt. Ontake. It is a place where the clear water and waterfalls soothe both body and mind. Incidentally, there are also restaurants and restrooms.

Visit waterfalls to cool off😄 The power of Gandate Gorge and the soothing waterfall were amazing 😄 It took about 1 hour and 30 minutes to go around. It looked like you could dress as you like, but if you're going to go around it's better to wear proper shoes. Later, there was a report of a bear sighting, so I went and hit all the bear bells that were set up in 3 locations 😚

It was quite cool on the last day of the three-day holiday, but in order to carry out the ``trip to seek coolness'' that I had been planning for some time, I decided to go to ``Gandate'' in Gifu Prefecture, which is located on the border of Takayama City and Gero City. Go north to the gorge... Well, my body and mind have become much cooler...(´∀`)

Gandatekyo This is a cross-section of Japan's largest lava flow, which was formed from lava (andesite) 54,000 years ago. A similar quay continues for 17 kilometers upstream. Amadori Rock on the Neo Falls course is a lava rock that is about 150 meters tall and twice as tall as Gandate. In addition, Iwaodate was connected to Koiwadachi downstream, but it was separated by the lava flow of about 300 meters by Sawadani. Also, if you look at the lava flow from the Ontake Panorama Line, you can see an endless green band with a flat top. Governor Furuta even named it the "Green Grand Canyon." The rough-looking Gandate is the result of the "Marishiten lava" erupted during the latest period of Mt. Ontake's volcanic activity, which flowed along Hyoedani and solidified. This is a cross-section of the lava flow exposed. The rock quality is amphioxene andesite, which forms columnar joints when the lava cools and solidifies. This rock wall is approximately 72m high and 120m wide, making it a spectacular sight. The age of the eruption was determined at Nagoya University in 1992 by measuring the carbon content of charcoal fragments found in the lava during the excavation of the headrace channel of the Kosakagawa Hydroelectric Power Plant, and the result was that it was approximately 54,000 years ago. The age of formation has been determined. You can take a walk above Gandatekyo Gorge! "Relaxing hike in the forest on the lava plateau" to fully enjoy Kosaka's waterfall and nature Walk with a guide who is familiar with the great nature of Kosaka, This is a very popular and recommended tour where you can experience the great nature of Mt. Ontake with all five senses. You can experience a moment filled with "Kosaka's treasures" that are overflowing in the depths of Gandate Park!

It was really cool near the waterfall, but I sweated a lot when I climbed the steep stairs (lol) We were only able to go as far as Mitsutaki. Still, I was satisfied.
