I came to see the plum blossom algae, but unfortunately I couldn't see the flowers just because of the algae. I should have come a little earlier. By the way, please refrain from driving cars on the road along the Jizo River. Many people came on foot to see it. It seems that some people go to worship at Betsurai Shrine. It's quite a staircase. There were post stations here and there along the road along the Jizo River, and I enjoyed stopping by shops selling Baikamo ice cream and mizumanju.

August 23rd and 24th was Jizo-bon. The Jizo River, where you can see plum blossom algae, was lit up, and children made lanterns to float around, creating a magical scene. Also, the local presidents and officers who support the festival were very warm and the atmosphere was truly heartwarming.

I visited on July 5th, having heard that the best time to see them is from July, but this year there was still a lot of water and it was early, so I wasn't able to see any plum blossom algae. According to the locals, there is a river cleaning event in mid-July, and once the rainy season ends, the water in the river decreases, so we might be able to see it from August to October.

If you're not paying attention to the long, quiet mountain area of the old Nakasendo road, you'll miss it. I wonder if I'll be able to accomplish my goal.I met Baikamo, who was swaying in the quiet flow of waking life. Stroll along the clear murmuring of the Jizo River, whose water source is a mountain spring, while calming your brave dog. The fragrant wind blowing through the budding trees makes you think of early summer.
