About a 30-minute walk from the train station, this small area of preserved buildings is well worth the detour from the main drag. Easy walking and some interesting shops and buildings along the way. Highly recommended.

Take the train or a car back into history. A quiet stroll down an elegant street. Not crowded but has a very photogenic grave yard and a small pine forest. Several small restaurants and craft stores. Well worth the trip, even in the train.

This place has a special nostalgic charm, with well preserved traditional machiya houses. Free from tourists so I had an enjoyable quiet time appreciating the street. However, took me a long walk to get there….

Beautiful preserved street with many attractions along the way from Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple toward the bamboo forest such as Adashino Nenbutsuji Temple, Gio-ji temple and a Pottery store. There is a nice restaurant set in a traditional house call "Ayuchaya Hiranoya" next to the tori gate. The street is well maintained and easy to walk.

MUST DO AND SEE IN KYOTO FOR ME Take the bus (or if you're feeling adventurous, walk) to Otagi Nenbutsu Ji Temple. Then, descend the entire length of this street, far from the tourist masses, surrounded by nature and traditional machiya houses. Along the way, make a stop at Adashino Nenbutsu Ji for its bamboo forest. Continue your journey down to the Arashiyama bamboo forest or all the way to the city center. You'll enjoy a delightful walk and discover numerous quaint cafes and traditional shops. Enjoy !
