平安郷

A beautiful place where you can relax in nature without disturbance. It is not very visited by foreign tourists, so it is good to come here to walk and relax.

Nice large park-like temple area to walk around and see momiji. The observatory on top of the hill is open until 14:30.

Despite information online saying it was open to the public during April, I was not able to enter. I asked how to buy a ticket and was asked if I was a member. I explained that I wasn't but that I had read it was currently open. I was then rudely shooed away. A Japanese woman who seemed to be a member and the staff member were snickering as I walked off. A waste of my time during hanami season as it took quite a while to get to. Perhaps foreign residents are not considered "the public".

The place was once a sacred ground of Heiam-kyo. This is reproduction of classic beauty of the era. The night sakura illumination is fascinating. This is located right next to Pond of Hirosawa. Open to public in April and some other time in the year. ( Trans-word+ : TGM Kyoto Guide )
