About

Striated layers of rocks formed by water erosion, with sea glass & shells in tiny pools at low tide.

Super interesting rock formations jutting up from the sea. On lower tides, you can walk all the way to the lighthouse. Although you must be VERY careful as there is a lot of slick algae on the rocks as well as tricky terrain.

Coming here on a day with good weather makes a BIG difference! We arrived when it was cloudy but luckily the skies cleared up. I couldn’t stop marveling at the eroded rocks. Well worth a visit if you are in Miyazaki! The island felt peaceful and tropical.

A must-see for visitors to this area is the signature natural rock formation known as Devil's Washboard. While it's hard for me to imagine it as a devil's washboard, it's beautiful in its own way. The rock formations against the blue seawater and sky create a perfect scenic view.

Nature's highlight of rock formations when visiting Aoshima Island. Beautiful and scenic, the ragged rocks do come across as a huge washboard in its appearance, especially when seen from afar before approaching it closer. When we came, it was low tide, so it can be seen very clearly and some people and children would walk out on the rocks, balancing along the way. It's naturally sandy when walking along the shore. It will also lead to the shrine on the island.

Very amazing and wonderful scenery. The coolest place in Miyazaki. It's cooler than I imagined.
