Well organized by eras from the prehistoric time to the modern day. The museum area is the site of many burial artifacts. A must see for those interested in history of Japan. Going here helped me put events into temporal perspective.

Decent museum, very reminiscent of Reimeikan in Kagoshima. Like others have said there's minimal English, unless you use a QR code which I feel isn't the most intuitive way to convey information. However, I am in a foreign country and shouldn't assume everyone speaks English or everything should be catered to me. Regardless, a very nice museum that's very cheap as well

Every city has its own story. Between the islands and the continent, Fukuoka used to be the gateway in which new ideas arrived and cross cultural communications occurred. The museum collects a lot of stories about the past of the city and presents them in a neat way. After the visit, walking in the old town gave me a different feeling and a nostalgic mood. It would be a pity if a trip to Fukuoka is only about ramen or hot pots, without this cultural feast.

Worth going, learnt the history or Hakata and/vs Fukuoka and how Fukuoka was the gateway of trade and exchanges with Korea and China and the rest of the world later on. And learn about the Hakata tradition of the float too! Ticket price is 200 Yen for the permanent exhibition. The special exhibition is 150 Yen. I visited here first and then did a walk around the Fukuoka old town, makes it a lot more meaningful! 2 thumbs up! 👍👍
