Town ( village ) of Seryo : This is another beautifil village along the river. Village of Seryo is located far north of Kibune Shrine. It's deep-end sub-shrine is called Okumiya. The mountain pass which connects Okumiya and the village of Seryo is called Seryo Toge which is a scenic pass surrounded by the dense growth of Kitayama Cedars. The road is Route 361 on the map. Seryo is a part of Keihoku district. The area is 700 meeters above the sea level. Seryo is known as a place where a grand child of Sugawara-no Michizane was educated by Shikibu Genzo. It is famous as a filming location for the NHK drama "Hanaguruma." As a tourist destination, there aren't any special attractions, but that's the beauty of Seryu. It continues to be a beautiful village where you can enjoy the changes of nature throughout the four seasons. If you head to Seryu from the Kibune direction, you will have to cross the steep and dangerous Seryu Pass, so it is best to visit from the R477 via Shuzan. The journey from R477 via Haiya is a pleasant journey along a beautiful clear stream.

Deeper in Kibune, Kyoto City. In the past, it was the filming location for "Seryu no Sato" starring Yoko Shimada. There is a privately owned villa called Kikusui-an. I hear that U○○do has held a concert in recent years. The garden is also worth seeing. Japanese cedar, weeping cherry tree, rhododendron, etc.

I stopped by on my way down from Mt. Kumotori. There is a temple school and a school, so you can feel the history, but you can also feel the peaceful atmosphere. The water in the river is very clean and it is no wonder that there are yamame trout and rainbow trout.

The temperature here is about 10 degrees cooler than in Kyoto in the middle of summer. There is a Seryu no Sato Preservation Society that protects it carefully.
