This is the mansion of the 5th generation of the Asakura clan ❗ It's a 100 famous castle ☺️ This is my second visit to the castle ❗ I had more time than last time, so I walked around a lot! ️With the mountain behind it, it's the ruins of a castle, so it's completely different from a normal castle❗However, historically speaking, it was the place where General Ashikaga and Mitsuhide Akechi were once located, so I think the scenery is very wonderful! ️There is also a restored town, so history lovers will love it! ️

I parked in the north parking lot (free of charge), walked around the Ichijodani Asakura clan ruins, and entered from the south side. Although I visited right after the rain, I was able to fully enjoy the quaint restored townscape.

[Visited on Sunday, June 9, 2024] After studying at the Fukui Prefectural Ichijodani Asakura Clan Ruins Museum, I rented a bicycle (¥500) on the first floor of the museum and visited the restored townscape. I purchased a common admission ticket for the museum and restored townscape (general ¥820). If purchased separately, the museum will cost ¥700 and the restored townscape will cost ¥330, so it will cost ¥1,030. The ruins of a castle town that flourished during the Sengoku period, when five generations of the Asakura clan ruled over Echizen Province for about 100 years, have been excavated and recreated in almost perfect condition. Echizen Ichijodani is a castle town with a lower castle (shimokido) on the north side and an upper castle (kamikido) on the south side, the north and south sides of which are blocked off by two castles (Kido → a defensive facility to stop enemies), firmly protecting the center of the castle town. Ta. The people living inside Kido were samurai and merchants who had ties to the Asakura clan. During this period, typical private houses were built with pillars buried directly into the ground, but in Ichijodani, most buildings were built on foundation stones, known as the "soseki-shiki" style. . It is said that more than 10,000 people lived in a densely packed area of about 2 km between Kido and Kido. Only part of the townscape has been restored, and the ``restored townscape'' is an approximately 200m long townscape lined up in an orderly manner facing the road, using the same stone walls and building foundation stones found during excavations, based on excavated items. It seems to be faithfully reproduced. A samurai residence has an earthen wall around it, a gate facing the road, and many buildings inside the residence. On the other hand, machiya houses are built directly on the road, have a small area, and have a simple structure with a well and toilet in the backyard. If you look closely at the gates of the ``Advanced Samurai Residence'' and ``Intermediate Samurai Residence'', you will see that they are divided into two: one with four pillars erected on the foundation stone, and the other with two pillars erected on the ground. The former is the gate for upper-class samurai residences, and the latter is for intermediate-class samurai residences, and you can tell the difference in status from the gate. You can go inside the restored samurai residences and townhouses and see the exhibits, giving you a glimpse of what life was like back then. The staff members dress up as people from the time and wash the dishes in the backyard, creating a great atmosphere❗️✨😁👍 We also sat near the entrance of the townhouse so that we could take a commemorative photo with them. There were also staff members standing by. Fukken Machinami's business hours are 9:00-17:00, and is closed during the year-end and New Year holidays.

After Eiheiji Temple, head to Ichijodani and Asakura clan ruins. I used to do this with Bura Tamori. I thoroughly enjoyed the restored cityscape. It's getting pretty hot these days and the wind is hot 🥵❗️ A small space surrounded by mountains. A cultural city created by the Asakura clan's longing for Kyoto. But perhaps that feeling was burnt out by Nobunaga.
