Amazing UNESCO heritage listed village well worth the journey. We hired a car from Kanazawa. Visit the house of puddings for a sweet treat. Make sure you do the tour of the traditional building opposite the pudding shop. You get a photo with the entry price that is worth it plus you get entry into the actual shrine and it's amazing! Stroll through the town and enjoy the time and soak it in.

Most houses were converted to shops, restaurants, galleries, etc. Some residential ones remain, with cords around them- meaning they were off limits and guests must not cross the line. It was very pleasant walking around, tho we had limited time, I had fun seeing the houses up close. They were beautiful indeed. /travelspeedx

I visited here in August 2024. There’s a large parking area, and the entrance fee is 1,000 yen. Restrooms are available. The weather was quite hot at this time of year, and walking around during the day left me drenched in sweat. The village atmosphere was relatively peaceful, though there were a steady number of tourists. The view of the village in summer is beautiful in its own way, different from the winter when it’s covered in snow.

It is a very cute Japanese village with eccentric looking houses. They give out a feeling of Miyazaki Hayao宮崎駿‘s animation. However, we arrived a bit late around 4pm. Lots of shops were about to close. The viewpoint was closed down. And the parking lots closes at 5pm. We didn’t not get to sit down and enjoy a tea or coffee there.

Shirakawa-go Village is a beautiful place with charming thatched-roof houses and stunning scenery. The locals are friendly, and the village feels like stepping back in time. It's amazing in any season and offers a peaceful, unique experience. Definitely worth a visit! Be careful if you go down to the river as some of those big rocks might be a bit loose.
