Iwakuni Castle, perched atop Mount Shiroyama, offers breathtaking views of the surrounding Nishiki River and Kintai Bridge. Originally built during the Edo Period, the castle carries a rich history and provides a unique glimpse into Japan’s past. Visitors can either hike up the somewhat steep path, which can be challenging for beginners, or take the scenic ropeway to the top. Once there, the panoramic views are well worth the trip. With the added charm of nearby Kintai Bridge and Kikko Park, a visit to Iwakuni Castle makes for a perfect day trip. A must-see for anyone in the Iwakuni area!

What a hike! Get ready for a steep incline if you don't buy the tickets to the cable car (rope car) up the mountain. Once you get up there, the prices to go inside the castle are great, the view is spectacular, and there are several vending machines for a quick drink and several resting spots. All in all, we had a great time visiting!

A secret castle hidden high up on the mountain. If you love shoguns/samurais and weapons, definitely worth visiting! You’ll pass through one of Japan’s top 3 most famous bridges too.

This is a small castle, also rebuilt, but here you can see the interior how it was in the old days. We where the only non-Japanese visiting this, so it not adapted to mass tourism, like Osaka castle. Osaka is beautifully on the outside, but the inside is too much 20th century architecture. In Iwakuni you feel the atmosphere of the samoerai period. You are allowed to take photos. Very nice castle, the road to the castle is in the partly bamboo woods, passing the casle well and at the top you have a nice view over the famous Kintaikyo bridge.

The Mog Champ sends his regards. Iwakuni Castle is a nice place to stop by if you ride the cable car to the top of the mountain. It's a nice clean castle like many others but the best thing about this one is you can oversee the Kintaikyo Bridge downstairs. Mogliest Regards, Your Mog Champ
